Earlier this week I shared with you a first look at my new winter/holiday collection of stamps for Spellbinders. I can’t even describe how exciting it is seeing my drawings transformed into stamps! It is even more exciting to get to create and share projects featuring them. This next week I will be sharing projects featuring the new winter/holiday collection.
The first stamp I am featuring is the Mittens (SBS-063) stamp. I simply adore these mittens! I am brainstorming ways I can use them beyond winter because I don’t want to stop using them after winter!
Here is how to make today’s card. (Don’t forget, all the supplies are linked below at the bottom of the post.)
Cut a 4 1/4″ x 11″ strip of natural colored cardstock. Fold in the center to create a top fold 4 1/4″ x 5 1/5″ card. Ink the Big Woodgrain stamp with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. Stamp the card front with the woodgrain image. Brush the edges of the card with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink using an ink blending tool.
Cut a piece of pattern paper (I used a piece from the Tim Holtz Yuletide 8×8 Paper Stash) to 4″ x 5 1/4″. Use an ink blending tool to brush the edges of the pattern paper with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. Adhere the pattern paper to the front of the card.
Die cut a large scallop circle from white cotton batting (you could substitute wool felt). Adhere the die cut to the center of the card. Add machine stitching around the die cut if desired. If desired, lightly brush over the batting (or wool felt) with Gathered Twigs using an ink blending tool
Wrap sheer ribbon around the card front, tying in a simple bow on the left side.
Stamp the mittens on white cardstock. Color as desired. (I stamped mine on Neenah Solar White Cardstock with Memento Tuxedo Black ink. I colored the mittens with Copic Markers.) Cut out each of the two mittens. Adhere the mittens to the front of the card over the ribbon.
TIP- I used adhesive foam squares to adhere the mittens since I wanted the mittens to sit up off the surface of the card. The problem is that adhesive foam will never adhere permanently to the ribbon or fabric surface. To solve this, place the adhesive foam on the back of the mittens. Remove the second backing to expose the adhesive that should attach to the card. Next, place a line of liquid glue (I LOVE Therm O Web’s new Mixed Media Adhesive) on the back of the adhesive foam. The liquid glue will bond the adhesive foam to the fabric, keeping it in place for keeps!
Die cut a Frayed Tab from manila cardstock. Although there is a score line in the center of the tab, you can use them flat like a banner or label. Lightly stamp the tab with the Big Woodgrain stamp using Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. Brush the edges of the tab with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink using an ink blending tool.
Use alphabet stamps to add a sentiment. Adhere the banner to the card below the mittens.
Quick and easy and pretty darn cute!
Be sure to ask your favorite local or online store to see if they will be getting the collection. It is also available online in Spellbinder’s online shop. I will be back tomorrow with another project from the collection. I hope you will check it out!
