I love finding ways to use things in my stash to create quick and simple little projects that I can give as gifts or use to make my daily life a little cuter and happier. These fun little felt clips are a perfect example!
They are so quick and simple to make using scraps that you probably already have in your crafty stash. Use them to as a book mark in your planner or favorite book, clip them to a card or scrapbook page as an embellishment, or make a bunch to pass along to friends as quick and inexpensive little gifts. They are also great for projects to do with your kids!
The supplies are simple- a large paper clip, simple die shapes (I used the small flower and leaves from my Posie Parts stamp & die set), buttons, thread, liquid glue (I recommend Therm O Web’s Fabric Fuse or Mixed Media Liquid Adhesive), and scraps of fabric, wool felt, or paper. I prefer fabric or wool felt over paper since they are more durable.
Note- I am using wool felt. If you use a craft acrylic felt, you need to test your adhesive on a scrap of the felt. Some adhesives do not work well on craft felt because of its acrylic fiber content. If your adhesive doesn’t work on it, simply use a needle and thread to fasten everything together.
Die cut the shapes from your selected material. You will want to cut two matching pieces of your main shape. In this case, I want two of the same flower.
In case you wondered, my dies will cut wool felt using even a small die cutting machine like Spellbinders Prizm! If you love small die shapes but don’t want to invest in an expensive die cutting machine, you should check out the Prizm- it is small but mighty!
Place a large drop of glue in the center of the die cut. Place the top of the paper clip in the glue on top of the die cut.
For a posies, be sure the add a leaf! Place the leaf in the glue on top of the paper clip.
Place your second die cut on the top and press into the glue. Allow the piece to set for several minutes to allow the glue set up.
Select two matching buttons as decoration for the center of the posies.
When the glue is dry, place a button on the center of the posies. Use a piercing tool to pierce through holes of the button through the layers of felt.
Piercing the holes makes it so easy to sew the buttons in place. Instead of trying to work a needle through the layers trying to find the hole of the button on the other side, you will simply be lacing the thread through the holes in the felt and in the buttons.
Sewing the button will also help secure everything nice and tight and will help prevent the layers from coming apart later.
So super quick, cute, and easy!
A warning though, once you start making these fun little clips, you may have a hard time stopping! Notice the white posey on the lower right? It is from scraps of the quilt used in the spool book I shared the last week! I seriously savored and used every last little scrap of that quilt! Now I have a bit of it marking a page in my planner which totally makes me smile!
Not only could I not stop with the posies, I started looking at my Tabs Set One and Tab Set Two dies. Yes, they work too!
And notice how the posies from the Posies Parts set fits so perfectly? A total happy accident!
This cutie is a bit of a sneak peek… I needed a little heart. It just so happens that a stamp and die set that is coming in May has a small heart die. I had it on hand to test out and could not stop using it. And what do you know, the heart fits on the Posies Parts too! It is like I planned it all out but I didn’t. It is all just happy little crafty accidents. Aren’t those the best?
