Hello friends! I wanted to pop in really quickly to share a link with you to a tutorial I shared this week on the StencilGirl blog. It features a page from my very long neglected art journal. It was so fun to create and it let me use every single color of ink!
When I first spotted this Shattered Stencil in the StencilGirl shop, I imagined it exploding in full color. I wanted to create that blast of color for my art journal as a celebration of my love of colors.
It is kind of odd, given that I am an illustrator, but I am always hesitant to doodle or letter on a project. I think I worry that I will mess it up! (When I draw my stamp designs and other pieces I work in pencil and erase a lot!) Sometimes if we use a little helper we can get a doodled look without some of the hesitation. In this case, I used the stencil to trace the lines and fun shapes. I didn’t have to think about how to fill the spaces, it was done for me. Once I had the lines, I felt a little more bold about filling in some lettering. And truly, once I did I kind of wondered what the big deal was! Why was I hesitant in the first place! I wanted it to look fun and random and a little imperfect. And I think that is what I got!
You can find the full step-by-step tutorial here: Color Outside the Lines Art Journal Page.
