I love when you can use products for a seasonal card that aren’t considered holiday products. That is the case with this card. This simple card uses colors and stencils that aren’t generally considered holiday designs. The design is easy and quick to create and can be adapted easily for other themes. It also uses a favorite technique of layering Picket Fence Distress Stain on kraft cardstock to allow you to use soft colors are kraft.
Swipe light coat of Picket Fence Distress Paint on a piece of kraft cardstock. Swipe from side to side. Leave areas uncovered.
Add a second coat swiping from top to bottom creating a cross hatch pattern over layer one.
Add a third coat from side to side…
and a fourth coat from top to bottom.
Dry the cardstock with a heat tool. The pattern created from the layers of stain will be visible. Some areas will be thicker than others.
Ink a script stamp with Coffee Archival Ink. Stamp the sentiment on the piece of kraft over the top of the dried stain.
If the sentiment is too dark, lightly sand over the dried stamp image. Sand in a straight line from side to side. If you sand too much you will remove the stamped image from the stained area.
Ink around the edges of the card and slightly onto the white area with Broken China Distress Ink using an ink blending tool.
Place the Stars Layering Stencil over the left side of the card. Apply Broken China Distress ink to the card front by pouncing the ink onto the card through the stencil with an ink blending tool.
Place the Rays Layering Stencil over the lower part of the card front. Apply Scattered Straw Distress ink to the card front by pouncing the ink onto the card through the stencil with an ink blending tool.
If the yellow ink is too bright, lightly blot it with a dry cloth to lift off some of the ink.
Add more stars to the card front by again adding more Broken China Distress Ink through the stencil.
Dry the ink with a heat tool. I love, love, love the way the inked images layer. You can see stars behind the rays and also see that stars on top of rays. It is just a magical effect that is so easy to achieve!
Ink around the edges of the card using Vintage Photo Distress Ink with an ink blending tool.
Die cut 3 stars from white cardstock.
Add a metal stem to the stars by poking wire through the stars and twisting…
or by taping a twisted wire stem to the back of a star.
Apply a wet adhesive to the front of the stars.
Sprinkle Clear Rock Candy Distress Glitter onto the stars. Set aside to dry.
Wrap the card front with white Crinkle Ribbon. Add a fluffy bow. Adhere the card front to a pre-made kraft card.
When the glue is dry on the glitter, brush the edges of the stars with Vintage Photo Distress Ink. Apply glue to the wire stems on the stars. Poke the stems in and around the bow.
Stamp a sentiment onto the band of ribbon.
Slip a piece of Filmstrip ribbon behind the ribbon band to create a “frame” for the ribbon. The border on the filmstrip will help bring attention to the sentiment and “lift” the ribbon off of the background image.
