Happy Saturday friends! I am so excited to share a new free pattern with you today! This super cute wool appliqué pattern is a fun little 6×6 mini pillow. I created it as a special guest designer for Just Another Button Company’s Button Lover’s Club: Words with Buttons. Each month they ship a box a fun box of handmade and hand-dyed buttons that coordinate with a new fabric collection. They also create a group of fun mini pillows that use the buttons from the box along with the featured fabric. This month’s box has a Christmas theme. Since I love working with wool, I created a project to share with the club using the club buttons with wool.
This snowman started his life as a rubber stamp design.
As I thought about what I wanted to make for the Button Lover’s Club, the snowman came to mind. I made a few quick changes to the art and did a test print to check for size. The snowman and the buttons were a perfect size match as if they were made for each other! Suddenly I knew why the snowman never became a stamp… because he was meant for wool appliqué.
Just Look at that face!
Of course JABC had the perfect buttons for the nose and the most precious teeny tiny buttons for the eyes and mouth. The carrot and tiny black buttons shown are not part of the club box. BUT, JABC has created a button pack for them that makes it easy to order what you need (linked in the supply list below).
Note: A pattern for the nose is also included. French knots can be substituted for the eyes and mouths.
My favorite detail for this guy is that he holds a cute string of Christmas lights. If you are a button club member, you have alphabet buttons that you can use in place of the light bulb buttons to make a button banner. Details about that are in the free pattern download.
This cute little bird is one of my very favorite JABC handmade buttons. My original drawing for the snowman stamp included a little birdie buddy. I am so glad he got this cutie! They are such a perfect pairing together!
The free pattern is available to download for in my pattern shop. The free pattern is a pdf that you can save to your computer and print. It includes 14 full-color step-by-step photographed instructions and 1 pattern page. You will love how easy it is to follow along with the instructions!
What buttons do you need?
If you are a Words with Buttons club member, you will need the buttons from your Cheer box plus the Snow Many Buttons button pack (linked below). If you have used some of your club buttons on other projects or are not a club member, I have linked all the single buttons you will need along with the Snow Many Buttons button pack. And just incase you might want to use the mini pillow as a pincushion, I added a link to a Just Pins set that I think would be a perfect addition!
