Happy Tuesday friends! Today I have a new art tag tutorial to share. I think it is no secret that I love combining blue and green. I have had a hard time moving past pairing Bundled Sage or Peeled Paint with Tumbled Glass or Broken China. That is until Mermaid Lagoon and Cracked Pistachio came into my life. I absolutely love these two colors together. They make me happy.
Today’s tag was inspired by color. I simply wanted to create with these two colors and let them take me where ever they wanted. I love where this tag ended up. Best of all, it was quick and easy. I hope you like it and give the techniques a try!
Lay the Speckles background stamp face up on your craft sheet. Scribble Picket Fence Distress Paint onto the stamp.
Place the tag onto the stamp. Run your fingers over the back of the tag to transfer the stamp image onto the tag.
Move the tag around several times pressing the tag onto the stamp until the front of the tag is covered.
Dry the paint with a heat tool.
Mist the tag with water.
Mist the tag with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Spray Stain.
Allow the Distress Spray Stain to drip from the tag.
Color a yard of Crinkle Ribbon with the excess stain on the craft sheet. Mist the ribbon with water if needed to help it wick through the ribbon.
Blot the tag with a dry cloth. Dry the tag with a heat tool.
Sand along the edges of the tag with a sanding grip.
Apply Cracked Pistachio Distress Ink with an ink blending tool along the upper left and lower right corners.
Apply Pumice Stone Distress Ink with an ink blending tool along the lower left and upper right corners.
Brush the edges of the tag directly with the Pumice Stone Distress Ink pad.
Mist the upper left and lower right corners with Blue Smoke Perfect Pearls Mist. Perfect Pearls Mist adds shimmer without adding more color.
Place a strip of Tissue Tape from the top to bottom of the tag on the left half of the tag.
Add a 5″ strip of Film Strip Ribbon over the top of the Tissue Tape slightly offset.
Add a 7″ strip of Linen Ribbon to the front of the tag over the top of the Film Strip Ribbon.
Add machine stitching through all the layers.
Use an ink blending tool to apply Gathered Twigs Distress Ink the edges of four pieces of Tim Holtz Ephemera. I chose a ticket, claim ticket, a stamp, and a butterfly. Add curls, tears, and wrinkles as you ink to add texture and dimension to the pieces.
(Confession- I accidentally mixed my ephemera sets together and am not sure which sets these pieces are from. All of the sets have great images, you can’t miss with any of them! I suggest adding all the sets to your stash! )
Scribble Distress Ink Markers onto your craft sheet. Use a water brush to pick up the color and brush it onto the butterfly ephemera piece.
Layer the elements onto the tag. Add the larger ticket and the butterfly with adhesive foam to add more dimension.
Add a rub-on sentiment to the tag near the ephemera. Add a rub-on star border on each time of the film strip.
Cut a small piece of dyed ribbon about 2″. Tap over the piece of ribbon with an ink blending tool with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink. I do not re-ink the foam when I use this, I just use the ink already in the foam.
Fold the ribbon in half. Add a bit of liquid adhesive and tuck the ribbon under the left edge of the ephemera.
Add a Mini Fastener to the center of a Mini Gear.
Adhere the Mini Gear and two other Mini Gears or Sprocket Gears under the edges of the ephemera.
Add a Star Fastener to the center top of the larger ephemera piece through all the layers to “attach” the ephemera to the tag.
The background is so speckledy good! And oh, the combination of Cracked Pistachio and Mermaid Lagoon… they may be my new favorite blue and green combo!
I love how easy it is to create a resist background with a stamp and Distress Paint.
It is so hard to capture in photos, but there is a subtle pearly sheen on the tag from the Perfect Pearls Mist. The shimmer comes and goes with the movement of the tag.
I love these Tim Holtz Ephemera packs so much! You get tons of pieces in a pack and they are just the best images! If you love vintage paper goods, you will really love the selection of images. They are the perfect size for cards and tags too.
I love the sentiment on this tag. I think of it as a reminder to be beautiful in our lives and to use our wings.
